Beauty Contest is very common throughout the world. But UAE is going to host one of the most unique and different beauty contest. The Falconers of UAE have been invited for Falconer Beauty Contest with their birds. The contest is to showcase different kind of beautiful birds from various species.
The International Hunting and Equestrian Exhibition 2014, to be held in Abu Dhabi, is looking for the world’s biggest and best-looking falcons and issued the invite to breeders and owners, reports state news agency WAM.
Judging categories will include Best Gyr-Peregrine Bred in Captivity, Best ¾-Bred Pure Gyr, Best Gyr Male and Best Pure Gyr, as well as Best Display Stand.
The creatures’ health will be assessed alongside their aesthetic appeal.
The 12th edition of the International Hunting and Equestrian Exhibition is being held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Ruler’s Representative in the Western Region and Chairman of the Emirates Falconers’ Club.
Falconry has been an integral part of Arab heritage for centuries, and the sport is practised in more than 80 countries around the world. In November 2010, the UAE spearheaded international efforts to get falconry included in the UNESCO Representative List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
The Falcon Beauty Contest has become world-renowned and attracts various participants committed to offering the best they have of the breeding falcons and has gained the appreciation of regional and international bodies interested in preserving heritage and conserving the environment.
Abu Dhabi’s Cultural Programmes and Heritage Festivals Committee is supporting the event, which is being organised by the Emirates Falconers’ Club and Informa Exhibitions Company.
Emirates Falconers’ Club is actively participating in the events of the 12th edition of the exhibition and visitors will learn about the Wild Falcon Release Programme, launched by the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the founding father of the United Arab Emirates.
Since the programme began in 1995, hundreds of Pure and Peregrine falcons have been released into their original habitats to enable them to breed.
