Join Dubai Vegan Days for a nutritionist lecture, sumptuous healthy food and a breath-taking sunset over the Burj Khalifa, Saturday, August 4, Dubai Herbal & Treatment Centre
Dubai Vegan Days has joined forces with Dubai Herbal & Treatment Centre (DHTC) on Oud Metha Road for an evening of entirely plant-based food, an enlightening talk, an incredible sunset view and the chance to win prizes worth more than AED1,000.
Those interested in eating for maximum health will be delighted to try the Eat Well restaurant’s new summer menu – and there’s a new entirely vegan menu on offer at the alternative health venue.
Come along and enjoy the food and the view, and you could also walk away with a prize valued at AED1,150.
Simply bring your business cards or your details to take part in a prize draw for a package for two, which includes a meal for two at eat well restaurant worth AED 400 and two 50-minute massages at the feel well retreat – worth AED 750.
Join us from 5pm, where you can explore the downstairs retail area and the café – which sells a range of bread and cakes suitable for those with intolerances, allergies and other dietary needs – before enjoying a welcome drink and a tour of the facility, if you wish.
At 5:30pm, one of the centre’s nutritionists, Zenia Menon, will present a brief talk regarding how to enjoy a balanced diet as a vegan, with a focus on gut health, with the chance to ask questions, too.
Zenia says: “A vegan diet has benefits like reducing the risk of cardiovascular diseases, Type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, lower oxidative stress (inflammation), and lowering obesity. However, it has also possible negatives related to nutritional concerns or shortfalls, which are a lack of essential nutrients like iron, vitamin D, B12, calcium and even zinc. One must ensure a well-balanced diet with supplementation that can be nutritionally adequate and may provide health benefits for the prevention and treatment of some chronic diseases.
“The entire human gut microbiota exerts a direct influence on our health, and a vegan diet helps in improving the good bacteria in the gut in comparison to other diets, due to higher fibre intake and a lower pH, which is more alkaline.”
Of course, armed with the knowledge of what nutrients a vegan diet may lack, we can discover where to get those nutrients, and enjoy abundant health.
The chance to see just how delicious and tasty a good, balanced vegan diet can be follows, with sundowners and a three-course meal offered in the beautiful 80-seater Eat Well restaurant, upstairs at the DHTC venue.
AED99 will get you a choice of starters from a buffet, a main course and a dessert.
Starters include gazpacho shooters, Vietnamese spring rolls, pulled barbecue jackfruit sliders, mini rice kulchas and corn salsa wraps and avocado cream.
The main course is a vegan primavera lasagne with baked plantain, black beans and coconut, while the dessert might come as a sweet surprise, simply being entitled ‘vegan texture’.
Reji Francis, F&B manager at the award-winning Eat Well restaurant, says: “While our restaurant has always proudly presented a variety of vegan-friendly options, creating a special dedicated menu was a natural step for us. We’re excited to launch this menu – as a result of listening to our customers – which leans on tradition, to craft what we believe is one of the most varied and flavoursome vegan menus you’ll find in Dubai today.”
Dubai Vegan Days is the brainchild of Ananda Shakespeare and Will Rankin, both of whom share a desire to spread understanding regarding veganism and plant-based lifestyles.
With growing interest in plant-based, vegan and cruelty-free lifestyles, there are an increasing number of vegan-based products and restaurants on offer in Dubai. Dubai Vegan Days is a chance to bring the food, the vendors and the ideas all together.
Whether you are a die-hard vegan, a fan of Meat-Free Mondays, or simply ‘v-curious’, head to Dubai Herbal & Treatment Centre next Saturday for an exciting, tasty and healthy experience.
