Sharjah’s newest destination, Aljada, will play host to a thrill-filled new motorsport when the inaugural Red Bull Torque takes place on 15 December.
Supported by developer ARADA, Red Bull Torque will feature up to 40 professional drivers competing on a purpose-built and very challenging 120-meter oval course. The highly modified dune buggies generate up to 1200 bhp and can cost up to AED 2 million. The track layout will require the competitors, usually used to driving the buggies in the open desert, to develop a new skillset and tame the raw power of their vehicles in a completely new environment.
Drivers will have the opportunity to compete Head-to-Head, showcasing their skills, moves and motorsport creativity, with bonus points awarded for various categories including fastest track times, wheelies performed, car design and engine sound.
Winning contestants from each round will progress to the next stage, with the last two drivers battling it out in the day’s showpiece event, the Red Bull Torque Final.
Red Bull Torque will take place against the backdrop of Sharjah’s largest mixed-use megaproject, Aljada, which is spread over a 24 million sq. ft. area in the heart of the Emirate. Aljada’s Central Hub, the project’s leisure and entertainment district, will be a new destination for outdoor, indoor and extreme sports in the Northern Emirates.
HE Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed Al Qasimi, Chairman of ARADA, said: “We are delighted to partner with Red Bull to bring this first of its kind event to Sharjah. Red Bull Torque promises to bring plenty of thrills to Aljada, itself one of the most exciting new communities in the UAE. This partnership is also in line with the project’s masterplan, which has put walkability and an active healthy lifestyle for all Aljada’s residents at its core.”
