Horse Racing in Dubai, and UAE, is governed by The Emirates Racing Authority (ERA). The ERA administers all aspects of the sport, including the implementation and application of the UAE Rules of Racing through its Stewarding and Veterinary Departments. This also includes the licensing of all trainers, jockeys, officials and stable personnel. The ERA Registry Office manages and processes the registration of horses for racing, and all entries and declarations for all race meetings in the UAE. The ERA also administers the internationally approved Emirates Thoroughbred Stud Book.
The racecourses in UAE for horse racing include Meydan Racecourse in Dubai, Jebel Ali Racecourse, Abu Dhabi Equestrian Club and Sharjah Equestrian and Racing Club.
The Dubai World Cup is recognized as the “world’s richest day in racing” with total prize money of US$27.25 million for the showcase of nine races. The DWC race day features three of the most valuable contests in the world of racing: the US$5 million Dubai Sheema Classic, presented by Longines, the US$5 million Dubai Duty Free, sponsored by Dubai Duty Free and the famed US$10 million Dubai World Cup, sponsored by Emirates Airlines. Those events hold Group One status and are joined by the Dubai Golden Shaheen, sponsored by Gulf News, the Al Quoz Sprint, sponsored by Emirates NBD and the Dubai Kahayla Classic for Purebred Arabians and sponsored by Emaar. Additionally, the day includes the Group Two UAE Derby, sponsored by The Saeed and Mohammed Al Naboodah Group and Godolphin Mile, sponsored by Etisalat.
