Recognizing the role, the fashion industry plays in society, designers at Fashion Forward Dubai The October 2019 Edition are playing their part to promote sustainability. Here are the five designers who are making a difference through sustainable practices. From using organic and recycled fabric, sustainable ink to re-purposing fabric leftovers.
Farah Wali – Farah Wali is an Egyptian fashion designer and mixed media artist. Her design aesthetic is a mix of experimental, modern and chic, or “street couture”. She prides herself on being a wearable art brand and ensures that the entire process of her collections would include hand-made work. Sustainability is important to her brand, so she uses recycled fabric and sustainable ink throughout all their prints. About Maison Farah Wali
Hass Idriss – HASSIDRISS is the couture label empowering women around the world with sophisticated designs that enhance the female silhouette. Recognising the talent of local artisans in Beirut, Hassidriss endeavours to strengthen the local economy and provide the luxury sector with custom made designs. By merging vintage pieces and traditional techniques with cutting edge technology, while emphasising the use of sustainable materials and ethical practices, this couture label ensures its distinguished reputation. Reemami – Reema Al Banna was one of the first to set up a contemporary fashion label (Reemami) to be committed to sustainability, ethical design, female empowerment, and promoting active and healthy lifestyles in the region in 2010. Reemami’s designs are produced in small batches and when ordered only to minimize waste and over stocking. Production happens locally in factories and treatment of workers are prioritized. Its aim is to maintain manufacturing procedures that minimize water and energy use. The brand refuses to use any fur, feathers, or leather in their products and try to source organic, recycled fabrics whenever possible. Reemami also re-purpose their fabric leftovers to create headbands and other pieces to ensure zero waste. About Reemami

SADEEM’s fabrics are non-toxic and are sourced from companies that employ sustainable practices. Roni Helou – Roni Helou is a luxury ready-to-wear designer based in Beirut. Roni Helou is a brand for a proactive generation, engaging in methods of sustainability, local action and equality. He creates modern pieces that strive for originality while building an ecosystem that preserves the brand’s values of sustainability, eco-friendliness and ethical practices. Furthermore, the brand strives to be socially conscious, not only in its production methods, which are entirely local and promote fair practices, but also through collaboration with local artists and artisans. The brand also gives back to its community by donating 30% of its profits to Creative Space Beirut, a free school for fashion design. About Roni Helou
