The immense popularity of the star cooking show MasterChef Australia can be gauged by the number of its viewers. Its viewers are not limited to the native country Australia but around the world. The persons behind the its success are ts judges Matt Preston, Gary Mehigan and George Calombaris – have risen to celeb status in the past four years. George Calombaris even says that the real success of the show is largely down to the great co ordination between the three of them.
The show has taken them around the world, so what was the highlight of the past series for George? Eating four burgers from four different restaurants in New York in just two hours! What a job!
Aside from the US, the show also set its sights on Dubai for the fifth season, filming a challenge at Atlantis where the contestants had to take over the resort’s fine-dining restaurant, Ossiano, and run a full dinner service for 50 VIP guests. The episode featuring Atlantis, as well as other iconic Dubai landmarks, will air in the UAE on 13 October.
With all this time spent in the country it’s no wonder George has been inundated with offers to open an eatery. He won’t divulge who’s been knocking on his door, but we gather that proposals have been coming in thick and fast. And with eight successful restaurants under his belt at the tender age of 33, we’re not surprised Dubai’s big wigs are dying to bring him to our shores full-time. He’s currently in town in association with Bloomingdale’s and Atlantis, hosting a series of cooking demos and a special brunch at Seafire Steakhouse & Bar, and dinner at Ossiano.
It’d be a desire of many UAE food lovers to eat food cooked made by George Calombaris, let’s see whether he opens it here or not. Till then keep your fingers crossed!
