From snowy descents to magical activties along the lake
With the descent to the colder months on our radar, Vaud welcomes guests to experience an array of activities from skiing down the many runs to your wellness escape on the lakefront. Vaud, on the north side of Lake Geneva captures the true festive spirit.
The region’s history comes to life inside the walls of Chillon Castle, where the secrets of an eventful mediaeval past are revealed; visitors can also relive the more recent Belle Epoque era on board a CGN paddlesteamer or at one of the luxurious hotels in Montreux, Vevey or further along the lake; Lausanne.
From November to the end of December, Lausanne Lumières is a fantastic way to (re)discover the streets of the city centre and the old town by night. This original artistic event is free and features luminous works created by fifteen or so contemporary artists.
Every first Friday of the month, the town’s Palud square plays host to a craft market. Typical cafes, boutiques and large, elegant shops complement what this high-class district, which is completely pedestrianised, has to offer. An array of wonderful gems and little stalls nestled in magnificent historic buildings around the nearby cathedral form a medieval ensemble that will delight those who like to shop in quiet, cultured surroundings.
For an entire month, Montreux, the more classy town of the region, celebrates the festive season with one of Switzerland’s largest markets. 160 chalets on the lakeside promenades sell typical dishes and handcrafted gifts. Each year, the centre of the market features a guest, with its costumes and traditional cuisine. For three weekends in December, Chillon Castle provides the setting for “Medieval Magic”, which presents activities from different times. Children are of course the kings of the holiday season: the MOB trains take them and their families up to Rochers-de-Naye to meet Santa at his home. Each night, the bearded old fellow rides down to the lake on his sleigh to wish everyone a Happy Holiday!
At Glacier 3000, winter never stops. 184 days of pure enjoyment riding through the powder snow while enjoying amenities such as the Snowpark, the new slope a.k.a. the Red Run as well as the magnificent panorama over the Alps and a preferred destination for the freeride community. All levels of skiers and snowboarders will surely find their pure enjoyment. Even more so, the snowpark with toboggan rides, a snow bus and husky rides is pure winter bliss for the entire family
Blessed by vibrant towns, lovely winter countryside and charming, decorated hotels, making Vaud the ideal destination for a dream winter holiday.
