Two of Dubai’s most high profile hospitality names will head up a new company launched to develop Qbara, a unique Arabic restaurant concept they intend to roll out globally.
Elmar Pichorner and Patrick John, who have been behind the launches of some of Dubai’s most notable hotels and restaurants, One&Only Royal Mirage, Zuma, Atlanis The Palm and La Petite Maison, will be managing director and culinary director, respectively, of JAS Hospitality.
The company was created as part of the JAS Group, founded by Joy Ghossoub, Ammar Al Alwan and Shafiq Khartabil, “to bring world-class restaurant concepts to Middle-Eastern and global audiences”.
The company’s first concept is Qbara, an Arabesque lifestyle restaurant and after-hours destination at Dubai’s Wafi Fort complex that will open in August 2013.
“Qbara mirrors the ethos of Dubai as it is inspired by the classical but presented in a fresh and innovative style,” a statement on Monday says.
“The cuisine at the contemporary restaurant, lounge and bar will have an unmistakably Middle-Eastern flavour and is inspired by Levantine, Middle Eastern and Moroccan traditions. It will serve a unique take on quintessentially authentic flavours in a chic and stylish setting, with interiors and ambience providing a backdrop of modern Arabian opulence with a theatrical twist.”
The executive chef will be Colin Clague, who has worked in fine dining restaurants around the world, including the Burj Al Arab, Zuma in London and Dubai and most recently Pollen Gardens by the Bay in Singapore.
Qbara’s interior has been designed by Noriyoshi Muramatsu of Tokyo-based Studio Glitt, one of the restaurant world’s most revered architects and designers.
