Opera Gallery Dubai hosted the opening of the two-week exhibition for world-renowned painter, Antonio Segui on March 18th 2015. Making a personal appearance at his first solo show in the Middle East, the exhibition marks a milestone for Segui featuring his most recent collections, running until 1st April 2015.
Antonio Segui presents the ‘everyman’ in his work, an anonymous passerby amid the swarm and hustle and bustle of city life exploring man’s place in society and surroundings. With the new pieces, the central figure, Señor Gustavo is inspired by Segui’s native Argentina, and the exploration of Buenos Aires’ first inhabitants, and is displayed traveling from painting to painting, city to city.
Some of the paintings even bring Gustavo to regional cities where the characters are wearing traditional Middle Eastern dress, kandooras and abayas.
“It was another great launch event for Opera Gallery. We were delighted to have Antonio Segui present at the event as well as the support of the Argentinean Embassy who collaborated with us, highlighting South American culture which also ties in with this year’s Art Dubai theme” said Sylvain P. Gaillard, General Manager of Opera Gallery.
The opening night saw a live Tango dance performance and a selection of Argentinean delicacies provided by Café Martinez which complemented to the Latin spirit of the night. An array of regional VIPs who attended include H.E. Rubén Eduardo Caro, Ambassador of Argentina to the UAE and his wife, Consul General M. Carlos Tavera, Maria Veronica Leon, Marco Zaccaria, Graciela Smith – Director of Revista Magenta, Ibrahim Bin Desmal and of course Antonio Segui and his partner Clelia Tarrico.
Antonio Segui’s solo exhibition will be on display at Opera Gallery Dubai until April 1st 2015, at Dubai International Financial Center (DIFC); Gate Village, Building #3, +971 4 323 0909
