Dubai-based Syrian designer Rami Al Ali has revealed his Spring/Summer couture collection at the Paris Couture Fashion Week.
Inspired by Japanese culture and art, Al Ali’s collection focuses on several manipulations of the iconic Japanese garment: the kimono.
The 15-piece couture collection comprises of floor length gowns made from single sheets of fabric with no darts or cuts. The designer used modern folding techniques inspired by origami, the Japanese paper art.
Known for his unique embellishment, Al Ali used peony flowers and pearls to further highlight the organic theme of his collection.
He also used layers of satin, Italian lace, organza, and tulle, to create ample, voluminous layers. The high-end evening frocks come in a palette of gold, silver, and champagne, some harmoniously contrasting with hues of black. The designer’s appearance at the 2015 Paris Couture show was his seventh consecutive season. He has dressed several A-list celebrities including Beyoncé, Kerry Washington and Kelly Rowland.
Al Ali’s couture collections are available in his Jumeirah boutique, and his ready-to-wear is sold at Harvey Nichols Riyadh, S*auce Dubai, and Villa Moda branches across the Middle East.
